Project Overview

BAM Construction appointed Nuneaton Signs to deliver a full internal and external signage package for the new National Express Perry Barr depot. The development replaced the former bus garage sold ahead of the 2020 Commonwealth Games and included a new maintenance facility, driver welfare spaces, and a dedicated substation to support the future charging of electric buses. Nuneaton Signs was selected through competitive tender to deliver the external signage, later expanding our scope through direct engagement with National Express to include an extensive internal wayfinding package.

"Been super to work with you Tim and hope that we can continue to do so."

The project required a wide variety of wayfinding, operational, and health & safety signage to support complex vehicle movements and ensure driver and pedestrian safety across the depot. We carried out detailed site surveys throughout the build, creating mock ups of proposed sign locations and sizes to support client understanding and ensure accurate installation planning.

The works included:
• Multiple large high level tray signs visible from the main road
• Post mounted entrance and parking signage
• Comprehensive internal wayfinding solutions
• Health & safety and operational messaging across the depot

For the striking internal scheme, we developed a material palette that balanced durability and cost efficiency while delivering the “wow” factor National Express wanted for their new flagship facility. We also produced a series of stretched canvas graphics inspired by murals from the former depot, preserving elements of the site’s heritage.
Installation required tight coordination with BAM, particularly for high level signage facing the main road, which necessitated a carefully managed overnight road closure with our traffic management partner.

Social Value

Four members of our team who originally joined as supported interns contributed to the printing, cutting, and despatch of the wayfinding signage. Their involvement formed a meaningful part of our commitment to social impact and supported employment.

Why Nuneaton Signs?

BAM Construction selected us through a competitive tender process, recognising the strength of our technical expertise, our practical and consultative approach, and our proven ability to deliver high-quality signage solutions on complex transport and infrastructure projects. National Express also chose to engage us directly for the internal wayfinding, impressed by our social enterprise ethos and the value we bring beyond commercial delivery.
