Project Overview

Overbury appointed Nuneaton Signs to deliver the full signage and manifestation package for the new three storey Nottingham Central Library. Designed to provide a welcoming, inclusive and customer focused public space, the library forms a key part of Nottingham’s commitment to accessibility and community engagement. Delivered through the SCAPE framework, the wider redevelopment generated £2.4 million of Social Value (TOMS) for Nottingham City Council, supported in part through Nuneaton Signs’ Social Enterprise model.

Our Approach

Bespoke Manifestations Inspired by Nottingham’s Heritage

We produced and installed a series of highly detailed glass manifestations, designed around:

  • A stylised Nottingham skyline, and
  • A lace‑inspired pattern reflecting the city’s textile heritage.

Because the graphics spanned numerous individual glazed panels, our team carried out an extensive technical survey. This ensured precise alignment across panel joints and enabled our design team to produce clash‑free artwork for every section.

Inclusive and Accessible Signage Solutions

To support the library’s inclusive design objectives, we manufactured and installed:

  • Illuminated hanging signage featuring multiple international alphabets above the reception area, creating a globally welcoming arrival point.

Non‑illuminated built‑up letters for the curved entrance façade, providing a high‑quality and visually engaging identity feature inside the library.

Social Value

As a Social Enterprise, we integrated meaningful Social Value into the delivery of the library project. All manifestations were prepared and cut by our supported interns, Tom and James, providing hands-on experience and contributing directly to project delivery.

Why Nuneaton Signs?

Nuneaton Signs secured this project through a competitive tender process. Our Social Enterprise status aligns with the SCAPE framework’s Social Value requirements, while our track record in delivering high-quality, design-led signage made us a natural partner for a landmark public building of this kind.
