Imagine sitting on the starting grid of a professional circuit, staring down the asphalt, and preparing to push a high-performance race car to speeds of 130 mph+. Now imagine doing all of that using a custom foot-steering plate beneath your left foot, while managing the throttle and brakes with your right.
That is my reality. I was born without arms, but I have never spent a single day letting that dictate what I can achieve. Whether it was learning to write, play guitar, or handle daily tasks as a kid, I adapted. I always knew I had what it took to be a racer—I just needed the right environment and the right opportunity to prove it.
But before I could conquer the track, I had to conquer the job market. It wasn’t easy. Before finding my place here, I applied to countless companies that were wary of my disability.

Nuneaton Signs was entirely different. As a commercial social enterprise and a proud winner of the King’s Award for Promoting Opportunity, their philosophy is simple: focus entirely on what people can do, rather than what they can’t. They welcomed me without a moment’s hesitation.
When I’m not strapped into a racing cockpit, I am managing figures in our accounts department as a Financial Assistant, while working hard to complete my AAT Level 2 qualification. The team here provides the incredible flexibility and inclusion I need to balance my professional growth with my track commitments. Having a professional foundation built on true acceptance gives me the peace of mind and confidence I need when I step out onto the grid.
My passion for motorsport isn’t new—it was passed down to me by my grandfather, Michael Smith. I grew up following motorcycle racing alongside him, and as I got older, I knew I wanted to be the one behind the wheel. I mastered driving on the roads using my feet in a modified Audi A3, but stepping up to a competitive track environment required an entire engineering revolution.
To make my rookie season a reality, Team BRIT partnered with the brilliant engineers at Jim Doran Hand Controls (JDHC Ltd) to build a completely unique system. I am the only driver on the team who relies entirely on foot controls. Instead of a steering wheel, a flat plate sits in the footwell. I steer through precise foot rotation and traction with my left foot, while simultaneously operating the acceleration and heavy braking with my right.
The physical and mental toll of this setup is intense. When you are taking corners at high speeds, your split-second reflexes have to be flawless. Because my legs do all the work, my physical conditioning has to be elite—focusing heavily on core stability, leg endurance, and cardio fitness. Interestingly, the same focus and attention to detail I use to balance spreadsheets at my desk are the exact traits I lock into when I’m navigating an apex at 130 mph.
However, talent and technology can only take an athlete so far. Mainstream motorsport is heavily reliant on funding. To cover the costs of vehicle conversions, specialised racing equipment, track time, and extensive tuition, I am actively seeking forward-thinking corporate sponsors to step into the passenger seat.
